A futuristic Type 35 French designer Marc Devauze is imagining a futuristic single-seater Bugatti based on the firm's successful racecars. He used as inspiration the 1920s' Type 35 - Bugatti's most successful racecar ever – for this study of a single-seater electric hypercar featuring four in-wheel electric motors. It's envisioned as having detachable lithium-air batteries installed on either side of the driver.

Oldest Surviving Ford Bought By A Ford Descendent

Turns out that Bill Ford, Jr. is something of a man of mystery. The Executive Chairman of the Ford Motor Company has been revealed as the high bidder for the oldest-known surviving Ford automobile, which was sold at an RM Auction Hershey, Penn., in October for $264,000. The identity of the buyer had previously been kept under wraps. The 1903 Ford Model A Rear Entry Tonneau is believed to be the third car produced under the auspices of the newly-formed company and was sold on July 19th of that year to Iowa butter maker Herbert L. McNary. McNary handed over $1,350 for all three of the cars that day, which represented the full price of $850 for one plus down payments others. It was a welcome injection of funds for the fledgling automaker, which only had $250 cash on hand at the time and was in dire straits.

Pininfarina's firm, based in Turin, Italy, was responsible for the Ferrari 250 and 500, the Dino and the Daytona. He was named an Italian senator for life.

Sergio Pininfarina, who headed a family company known for its designs of sleek Ferraris and other cars, has died. He was 85.

Pininfarina died Monday night at his home in Turin, the company announced Tuesday. No cause was given.

The company founded in 1930 designed cars for Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Cadillac, Rolls-Royce and Volvo but is most closely associated with Ferrari, designing nearly all of its models since the 1950s.

The 1960s were an era of experimentation, whether it was with drugs or cars. Carroll Shelby took a Ford V8 and stuck it in the AC Ace to create the Cobra, one of the most terrifying and legendary cars of the time. Dropping big engines into lightweight cars became a trend with hotrodders everywhere.

Our friend Jason Gavin over at Cool Fords recently saw this rarity from the same era: A 1964 Cooper Type 61 Shelby King Cobra. Six of these cars were built. Like the Cobra, they combine British style with big American power to create a unique race machine.

It only had around 270 horsepower, but it also weighed in the 1,300 pound range. That's a killer combo to make a fast car.
